WHO I AM

Welcome

My name is Lara Grana and I am a young and dynamic European architect, specialise in sustainable planning.

During both my personal and professional life I have had the opportunity to travel and stay for extended periods in many foreign countries which has developed in me a capacity to adapt and to develop a relationship with the public....knowing many different people (and personalities!) of all cultures and nationalities.
I have had the opportunity to extend the boundaries of my culture and in particular my understanding and knowledge of architecture, modern and contemporary, centring particularly on the evolution of eco-compatible technology, studying and applying the principles of bioclimatic architecture , and new eco-sustainable solutions, not excluding eco-design.

I am particularly interested in the interaction between architecture and the environment and I specialise in projects or structures for tourism and residential and in eco-compatible, sustainable planning, that which could be defined as the eco-sustainable Architecture, the new way to build in the new millenium.

I have worked as a freelance for companies, tour operators, architects studios, offices and for private clients both in Italy and abroad, developing a capacity for organisation and a healthy attitude to team work with a strong bias towards objectives and problem solving.

Like eco-architect, in my projects I have a strong bias towards Recovery, Recycling, Reusing (R-3) and...aesthetics!

I havea good working knowledge of IT, the internet and the main graphic software.
I speak 4 languages well (besides Italian) I have bilingual level in french and I'm fluent in english and spanish, and ... obviously I have a strong bias towards travelling and learning new cultures.

Happy surfing!
Sincerely

Arch. Lara Grana

MY PROFESSIONAL CURRICULUM

I gained my degree at the Univeristy Institute of Architecture in Venice – IUAV, in 1999 with a bilingual tesi entitled "Brussels, metamorphosis of a capital city", an urban analysis of the city of Brussels, from its origins to today, European capital, an incredibile but paradoxical city!

During the course of my studies I travelled a lot in various European cities. I lived in BRUSSELS for four years, studying firstly with the Erasmus project, and then as an independent student at the Institut Superieur d’Architecture de la Communautè Francaise – LA CAMBRE.
I became bilingual in French and I collaborated with a monthly magazine TRAM 81, rewriting articles on the historical and urban eveolution of Brussels.
After this I lived in MILAN for two years, where I collaborated in a Architects and design studio working on projects for the restyling of the Cartier stores and the Richemont offices in Italy.
Following on I took charge of the relaunch and restyling of 97 post offices promoting the new image of the Poste italiane, as the architect responsible for the Siracusa , Ragusa and Enna districts.
I moved to ROME to pursue a masters at the Universita La Sapienza in ‘Projects for restyling and exhibition space, working with an Architects company and engineers on various projects of restyling and competitions of architecture and design.
After my years in Rome, I began a contract for the branding of the French tourist structures of Club Meditarranee and worked in Greece. In the French Antilles, Guadaloupe, France and Tunisia.
I continued to travel for study and personal development, doing a masters in Bio-climatics in Seville, where I works with a highly respected building firm which had built amazing houses in bio-climatic, sustainable architecture, and which promoted sustainable tourism with great success.

And now... here I am!
I decided to come back to SICILY and apply my learning and techniques in the field of sustainable architecture, in the bioclimatic construction and looking to develop Eco-design, continuing to follow my greatest motivation: to help safeguard nature and the environment through the promotion and development of a bio-climatic and bio-compatible architecture to create sustainable tourism, which leaves no carbon footprint!
At the moment I am working on an eco-compatible hotel in Modica, world heritage city of Unesco and at renovations of differents farms and old style houses in Sicily.

I look forward to it

Lara Grana
